Free Browser-Based Metadata Inspector & Privacy Cleaner

Zero-knowledge inspection and sanitization for confidential documents and photos

Whenever you take a photograph with a modern smartphone or create a PDF report in Word or Google Docs, invisible metadata tags are embedded into the file header. This includes your physical GPS coordinates, your full operating system username, camera serial numbers, and exact revision timestamps.

Modifyle gives you full control over this hidden data. You can inspect every attribute with our free Viewer, copy raw JSON diagnostics, or scrub all tracking identifiers with our 1-click Sanitizer before sharing files on social media, public repositories, or legal disclosures.

Because our processing pipeline runs in your local browser sandbox via WebAssembly and Canvas APIs, your documents are never uploaded to any cloud server, ensuring zero data leakage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is hidden metadata and why should I remove it?

Digital files carry hidden information called metadata. Photos store EXIF data including exact GPS coordinates of where you took the photo, camera serial numbers, and capture timestamps. PDFs contain author names, company names, editing software, and revision histories. Removing metadata prevents strangers, employers, or scrapers from tracking your location and identity.

How does Modifyle remove metadata without uploading to a server?

Modifyle runs entirely in your browser memory. For PDFs, it parses the document dictionary using pdf-lib WebAssembly, wipes the author, title, and creation fields, and deletes the XML/XMP stream. For images, it draws pixels to an isolated HTML5 canvas context, stripping out all JPEG APP1 EXIF and IPTC segments. No files leave your computer.

Does removing metadata reduce image quality or resolution?

No. Metadata is stored in separate header segments outside the image pixel data. Modifyle retains 100% of your photo's original pixel dimensions and visual fidelity while discarding only the tracking headers.

Can I view GPS coordinates and see where a photo was taken?

Yes. If a photo contains GPS tags, our Inspector extracts the latitude, longitude, and altitude, and provides a direct one-click link to locate the exact spot on Google Maps.
